Spring can be one of the best times of the year. We’ve escaped the cold of winter, the sun is shining, the flowers are blooming… but for many households, this also means spring cleaning. Spring cleaning carpets can be a tiresome task, so here are a few tips and tricks to assist you in keeping your carpets as clean and fresh as possible.

The Basics: Vacuuming

Obviously, vacuuming is key to having clean carpets, but many of us don’t vacuum as much as we really should. Weekly to fortnightly is the ideal timeframe between vacuums so as to minimise the amount of dirt, sand (and other nasties e.g. dead skin) that stay in the carpet.

Level Up: Steam Cleaning

If you own a steam cleaner, it’s a very powerful way to clean your carpets. For best results, add equal parts vinegar and water to the cleaner (and maybe a drop or two of a nicely scented essential oil if you’re worried about your carpets smelling like vinegar) and take satisfaction in your freshly cleaned carpets.

PRO TIP: If there are areas where your carpet is really dirty, add a greater ratio of vinegar – we recommend testing this out on a small, inconspicuous piece of carpet first. As we’re only suggesting cleaning methods, we can’t take responsibility for any damage or discolouring that may happen to your carpets.

Don’t have a steam cleaner?

If you don’t have a steam cleaner, we provide professional steam cleaning services. To find out more, click here. It’s sometimes best leaving it up to the professionals so you don’t need to worry about investing time and money in purchasing your own cleaning products. Also, ensuring that your carpets have that ‘pro-finish’ is extremely difficult to do on your own, which is why we always recommend turning to a Wizard Cleaner!

Like a Pro: DYI Stain Removal

While we spend our lives trying to avoid stains, unfortunately sometimes they just happen. Carpet stains can be a real hassle to get out, but here’s a quick hack to help when you have a fresh spill:

Step 1: Mix 2-parts water and 1-part vinegar into a spray bottle and spray the solution onto the spilt liquid.

Step 2: Cover the stain with a damp cloth or rag and grab your iron and put it onto the steam setting

Step 3: Iron the rag for 30 seconds.

Step 4: Repeat as needed (depending on type of stain and how long it’s been there for)

Ta-da!
