Refresh and deodorise your lounge suite

Lounge suites are the centre of family living. Kids jump on them, pets sleep on them when you are not looking and you collapse on them at the end of an exhausting day. They get grungy and dirty and start to smell so what are your options for making your lounge suite like new and without the odour of wet dog.

Remember, before using anything on your lounge suite do a patch test in an unnoticeable place first to check that it won’t mark the material.

1. Leather lounge suite

Warm, soapy water with a gentle soap is ideal for every day cleaning. Use a damp, soft cloth and wipe with a dry cloth afterwards to remove any remaining moisture. For stains you can apply a mild toothpaste  or hairspray directly to the stain (patch test first) then wipe off with a clean cloth straight away.

Avoid baby wipes with alcohol or vinegar by itself. They will remove moisture from the leather and may cause it to crack.

2. Fabric lounge suite

Mix one part warm water with one part white vinegar for stains. Sponge the stain with this mixture for effective removal. You can also use two cups of water mixed with half a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid to remove stains.

To get rid of nasty odours, first thoroughly vacuum the lounge suite. Sprinkle with baking soda (it absorbs odour) and leave for at least 15 minutes – longer for persistent smells. Remove the baking soda using the vacuum cleaner.

Sometimes you need professional help
